I have had this disease for years and I am just now coming to terms with it and trying to help
other people. By that I mean I just started a support group. I have had a rough time because
I went with it for years without being diagnosed. I actually refused to go to the doctor,
even though I was down to about 100 pounds, shaking, losing handfuls of hair, and having
mood swings from hell. My problem is this, the doctors i have seen are now saying I am
neither hypo or hyper. I am still on just propanol. they took me off PTU and Synthroid six
months ago. I feel awful. I will go to sleep at any time if I sit still long enough. I can't
work because of the extreme fatigue, and eye problems. I am not happy with the response
from my endo. and I have seen different ones, that still want to say I am ok. I'm not. Have
you ever encountered this? What do you have to do? Hit them over the head and scream at
them? If you can't tell, I am slightly frustrated. Sorry. The good news is I have the
best husband in the world who most of the time understands and does his best to help. One last
note, I think what you are doing is great.

I was diagnosed with Graves disease in February. I've been on PTU for about a month. I'll go
for a blood test next week. My doctor wants to keep me on PTU until my thyroid is not as
"hot", and then zap me with a dose of Radioactive Iodine. I was OK with this until last week
when I read in Intelihealth newsletter that there is a higher death rate tied to thyroid
radiation. Now I'm not sure which direction I'll go. I'm not happy taking PTU. It seems
that a drug that 'could' attack your white blood cells isn't real user friendly either.

Great story and nicely told, congratulations for being so stand up about this insidious
disease! Since my onset of Graves, I have talked to literally thouseands of sufferers. A few
common threads seem to conect all of us together even though there are well over 100 syptoms
pointing to this illness. It seems to me that fatique, depression and irratibility almost
always manifest in this. Even once the levels are smoothed out, they do not necessarily
disapear. Another is the lack of information the professional sector seem to subscribe to. It
has been suggested that "most" Endo's think the body starts and ends in their particular field,
when in fact a series of specialists are required to succcessfully combat the total and
overall effects that Graves have on the body. I went through the Doctors who would not believe
the symptoms as I recalled them, 6 Dr.s before I found the one who would listen to me and then
react. Since, my health has improved greatly over which it was. Find yourself a Dr. who will
listen! If one throws up his hands, throw yours up in a wave and tell him/her goodbye. You
know how you feel and along with standardized tests, there are good results to be had. Become
informed and read anything and everything you can find on this and share it with others.
Stay resolved to win! Good luck!

My daughter does not wish to ingest radiation into her body in an effort to shrink the thyroid.
Are there any alternative, homeopathic remedies that you know of? My daughter, Holly, has been
diagnosed with severe Graves disease and has very rapid heart beat with tremors of her hands
and legs. We would consider surgery but not radiation. Can you offer any new medical options?

I have been here before and marked this sight for my favorites because there was so much to
read, this time though I can not access any of the personnal stories that were on here or the
other links that were attached to this last fall early winter (around Christmas) where are the
"my Story" "valeries story" and the many, many other stories and articles? I was diagnosed
over 2 years ago and still my endro's can not get my numbers to regulate and I am on a constant
roller coaster...It has helped me to read the information and articles that were attached prior
to now. Even now there is very little that I can open to go searching for the articles and
stories that were connected to this web sight around Christmas. Can you please let me know
what is going on? And where all of the personnal stories went, Thank you very much. Jody
Spitale PS It is not my browsers..I have Netscape Navigator 4.0 as well as Microsoft 3.1

In a nutshell-- My eye swelled up about 6 weeks ago and I got excruciating headaches. They
pretty much put me out of commission. I am a full-time college student and work in the schools
and have a job on the weekends too. I'm very bust and being out of commission was tramatic for
me and everyone that it affected. I just received my BA the week these headaches started. At
first, they looked for a tumor -- which panicked everybody I knew. They did thyroid work, TSH
levels that came back fine -- by their blood test standard. What they did find is that a
muscle of my eye is enlarged. My doctor and his conferring opthamalogist both think it is
early signs of Graves' disease. I'm having blood work done next week to confirm that it is
Graves' disease. I've never heard of this, and know nothing. We have always thought I had
something wrong with me. I have always been very heavy. I ahve had many food allergies and
have had an outrageous appetite -- I cannot get full. It doesn't matter what I eat. It's
een a real problem. On one hand it relieves me to know that there is something wrong with me
that may be attributed to my weight problems, as well as other health problems I have never
been able to explain-- on the other hand, I don't know anything about this disease and find
myself a bit panicked. So, I am waiting for my blood work, and here to get some answers for
myself. I take the responsibility of my health upon myself -- I don't like to rely heavily on
doctors)especially only one doctors) opinion. I would be so grateful for anything you might
have to tell me at this point. This is all new and you page has so much information, I am
baffled. Please take the time to mail me and tell me anything you think I should know as I
start this journey. Than you for having this page and the chance to send a message. ---lisa

DISEASE. I HAD SURGERY 3 YEARS AGO. BUT I STILL HAVE THE BULGING IN BOTH EYES ONE MORE THAN
THE OTHER, AND I AM BEING TOLD IT IS NOTHING THATB CAN BE DONE. I NEED AS MUCH INFORAMTION AS
POSSIBLE.
