Hi,my name is Nicolle. I am 18 years old and have been diagnosed with graves disease for about two years now. I went through about three years prior to the diagnosis with the disease and no on knew what was wrong with me. This has been the hardest thing in the world for me. Along with dealing with the pressures a normal teenager goes through I have had to deal with this. A year and a half ago my thyroid was so out of control the doctor decided to do a complete thyroid removal. Although , I feel better it is a constant battle trying to regualte my medicaton. I would just like it alot if I had someone who has experienced this to talk to. so if you have time please could you get in touch with me. Thank you tremendously!

Thank you for giving information to the needy. I am lucky that my ENT saw a lump in my throat and took steps to find out what it was. Now, I wonder how life is going to be raising a 4 year old daughter by myself with this disease that I do not wish on my enemies. The pain is unreal but I feel I am a survivor and my daughters smile helps get me through the rough spots. Thanks for your help.

I felt so terrible.I was diagnosed of having toxic goitre, which I was told later on as Graves Disorder.,in 1990.I was given pills to take to make me feel better.I did and it did sort of stop.It will start again whenever I fast.(I am a muslim,I am required to fast).I just simply cant do it.As time passed,I had relapse for four times. In early 1996 I had another one.The same symptoms. It affected my job very much.I read books after books on Graves,I didnt quite understand.Withthe help of a doctor,a specialist(endocrine)I had a sub total thyroidectomy. Now I feel very, very much better. But I have to take .01mg of thyroxine. I should have opted for the operation earlier.

Just diagnosed with hyperthyroidism a week ago. I will be seeing an endocrinologist in 2 days. At my nuc.med. study they (technicians) all came down the hall to look at me. An experience I could have lived without. They tell me at 4 hours I was at 104% and at 24 hours I was at 97%. The highest they've seen. The real kicker is that I work for an optometrist(eye doctor) and he has never said anything to me about my bulging eyes. I am looking forward to treatment and I know my family is. Thank you for this wonderful site.

Well, for starters I began surfing the web at work because I'm not feeling well. I was diagnosed with Graves Disease in the summer of 1991. I was about 200+ pounds and dropped about 50 in no time. and my eyes got bigger. When I finally went to the doctor he put me on PTU - 12 pills at day (50 mg. per pill) and Propanolyl (spelling is probably wrong) for the palpitations that kept me awake at night. It's 8 years later, I'm extremely overweight, tired, my menstrual cycle is "possessed" because I am always bleeding (have been bleeding for about 28 days straight and my poor husband doesn't know what to do) my joints feel like I'm about 70 -- no I'm only 39 years old, and sometimes I'm so irritable and crazy I scare myself. I have been experiencing some really horrible things and I know it's time to see my Dr. Goldman who is the Director of Endocrinology at this hospital in Brooklyn. I'm really just sick of doctors, in general. First I have to see my GP to have the blood work done and he tells me how big I am, then he refers me to Dr. Goldman who looks at the test numbers and says "oh, you're doing fine." But I don't feel fine and it's really starting to get to me. I just had an endio biopsy done a couple of weeks back to find out more about my excessive bleeding and my Gyn found no abnormalities with the results (thank God), he says "it's an probably due to an imbalance from your thyroid condition." Wonderful! No who's going to do something about it. I'm going nuts here and I'm starting to feel like no one else understands -- until I came across your web site. I appreciate it, you and everything you've put into this site. I will be visiting again especially when I get home. Thanks for listening. Mrs. Ronell H. Williams

I was diagnosed by chance in 1993. I'm a lab tech and basically self-diagnosed the initial problem. If there are 20 symptoms, I was suffering from 19 of them. Everything could be related to stress in my life. It was caught early (by chance) and I began treatment with PTU. I am currently in remission. Your site is fabulous, it is such a shame that something so treatable goes untreated so often. Thank you for sharing your story.

Thank you so much for making me aware of all the thousands of others out there who are suffering like me. I have felt alone for a long time and couldn't share how I felt with anyone for fear of sounding like a whiner. I was diagnosed in 1993, one year after birth of my first daughter, and after losing about 40lbs in two month's time; a dream come true, but it didn't last. I have overcome the worst of it; I started out with an inept Endo and GP who couldn't team up with a map to find their way out of a paper bag....I now have a wonderful Endo who is my GP. My biggest problems were being allergic to the PTU and Tapazole treatments, I broke out in horrendous rashes and had the classic swollen joints. That's when bad went to worse and I was put on steroid therapy for almost a year; yeah, I look like it, too. Then, I had two rounds, spread out over six months, of the irradiated iodine pill. So, now I have no goiter, but I still feel the other symptoms on and off. The biggest problem is of course the weight gain. I find that it makes it hard to even try to exercise, and it's not getting any better after all this time. Thanks again for being here!

I am 30 years old and I was just diagnosed today with Grave's Disease. My symptom was fast heart beat (100 bps) and PVC (premature ventricular complex). My doctor did a CBC "just in case" and after subsequent blood tests and nuclear tests, here I am today! Both of my parents have hyperthyoridism (one with Grave's Disease), but none of us knew it was heriditary. I have grown so used to "high anxiety" and scattered thoughts -- I thought these symptoms were just a bi-product of my stressful job and type "A" personality! Whew, what a relief to know that I can get better. Tomorrow I am starting Tapazol (anti-thryoid) and Inderal (heart beat control). I have high expections and I am looking forward to feeling healthy -- it has been so long...
