I found out that I had Graves in April. I have been on Tapazole twice a day since. I am also
44 years old. For 18 years I have been exhusted and was told that I was a new mom, a working
mom, etc. I knew that something was not right, but getting the medical community to listen was
a joke. Now, I wonder if my 18 year old daughter might not have it. She has 14 of the symptoms
and has been treated for major depression for the last 6 months. (With no improvement!!) Help!

I am very glad that you have this page. I just found out today that my best friend was
diagnosed with grave's disease yesterday. I wanted to find some information for her. Looks
like you have lots of it! I will be sure to have her visit this site next time she is at my
house. She "discovered" her thyroid problems when she started having seizures. The DR. says
it's not related. Anyone else having seizures with graves disease or other thryoisd problems.
She also has been gaining weight rapidly. I didn't read all the stories but the one's i did
talk about losing weight, not gaining. Thank you very much for the time you have invested
into seeing that other people have access to information. You are an angel.

I'm 16 years old, and I have been suffering from Graves Disease for the past 3 years of my life.
I was on PTU for the past 3 years, up until 2 months ago. The doctors found that the PTU was
killing my white blood cells. They were down to 800. The doctors quickly took me off of PTU,
and planned to destroy my thyroid w/ radioactive iodine treatment. For the past 2 mos. I have
been been undergoing scans, and tests, and I'd been told that my thyroid would soon be
destroyed, and all of this mess would be over with... Well, that was two weeks ago. I got the
Thyroid Uptake Tests, which, for some very out of the ordinary reason, came back absolutely
normal. YET, my bloodtests are abnormal. The doctors are confused, and have left me with an
overactive thryoid, a pulse of about 120/min, and 4 hours of sleep/night. They say they are
confused, and i have my next appmnt. in 6 weeks. I'm tired of this, and all these doctors. Any
suggestions, comments, or help would be GREATLY appreciated. THANX :) ~nicole~

I was reading your story. A lot of what u said I felt myself. I don't think my hypo-thyroid
has been going on for too long, maybe since last Sept. But the extreme fatigue or even more
so, my aching legs has kept me running to the Doctor. I now have an reason and I feel a lot
better knowing I'm not crazy. My Dr. also told me if give u systems of Alzheimers disease. I
told him I couldn't remember things and I was aware of this but felt I was losing my mind. Now
I know I'm not. I'm glad I found this out fairly soon and didn't go as long as you did. I
hope u are starting to feel u have a new lease on life!!

Amazing how a gland the size of your average moth controls so much important stuff! When mine
short circuited in mid-1991, I was eating everything in sight and STILL losing weight. I felt
cranky all the time and...well, behaved dreadfully. You know. Fortunately, I never got to the
"storm" level. Being a serious athlete at the time, I was taking my pulse daily and recording it
in a log. When the normal waking pulse climbed from upper 40s to 80+, I turned myself in. "Yes,
I realize a resting pulse of 80-something is perfectly normal...but I'm not normal!" Yes, I had
to PROVE I was sick...*sigh*...so I lugged in the logbook, which spelled it out in black and
white. Did the RAI (didn't want 'em cutting on me), and I've been on the Synthroid roller
coaster ever since. My clothing ranges from sizes 4 to 8. I'm not making this up! Like you, I
prefer to err on the slightly hyper side. ;-) Hypo is a serious drag. Well, just wanted to say
I enjoyed your site. I'll add it to my favorites.
