Thank you for all your helpful links and information, and for caring enough to share. I'm new to this condition (or, at least diagnosis), and I'm nervous as hell. I don't like the treatment options for my condition. Have you heard of any other treatments, beyond radiation or surgery? I'm currently on atenolol, and it seems to be making the symptoms more apparent. Thank you again. -- Michelle

I love your site. Thank you. I will tell my daughter, Anne Dufurrena in Boise, ID, to find you. She's had so many problems since having thyrodic duct cancer about 3 years ago. I know she would appreciate some support from others with the same problems Thanks again...chloe

I am in the Army, stationed in Germany. I have had some of the symtoms I've read about here for some years. Two years ago, I was told my thyroid level was "a little low." I have been on Synthroid since. I was never "told" I have Graves, but this week, when I went to check on the results of my last blood work, my regular Dr was not around. The clerk printed up my report and had another Dr look at it. He came back and said it was normal. He let me keep the report. Right on the report it said "known Graves" I am going on leave to the states this week and I am considering checking with a civilian Dr about this. Because of the expense, I may wait till I come back and see my regular Dr. I am concerned that because our medical care is "free" in the military, I am not getting the treatment I should. Plus the fact we move so much and usually see a different Dr every visit. They just started a program where we see the same Dr each time a year or so ago and I think this is much better. But I still do not think I am getting the truth about this. I am also concerned about my career. I have 12 years in the Army and want to finish 20 so I will be eligable for retirement. I am fatigued most of the time. My heart races for no reason. I tire easily. I have joint pain. I am depressed and lose my temper much more easily. I cry easily. My supervising NCO in my last said I was too sensitive and maybe I shouldn't be in the military. Ive been accused of being a "typical female" and not setting a good example. My hands shake and my voice quivers. I am always being told to calm down when I am calm. People say I sound like I'm always on the verge of crying. My eyes have just started bothering me in the last few months, itching, dry, red, and sensitive to light I thought it was just allergies. Now I wonder? I was also told that I have a positive anti-nuclear factor but did not have enough symptoms to be considered having Lupis. I have been trying to get pregnant for 15 years and not been able to. I even underwent In-vitro fertilization three times. I used to think that it was all in my head, I was too stressed, too tense, I had bad nerves. But since I found this site, I think it is all related. I feel like I have been reading about myself! I am going to try to be more aggressive with my Dr. This could be a tricky thing since he outranks me!

Diagnosed April 1998 thank goodness as I thought I was really mad. Suffered for approx 6 years. Acting as Guinea Pig to train new Doctors in diagnosing techniques so feel that something worthwhile has come out of this. Glad to hear from any fellow sufferers.

This site is great! My husband, Dale, was told just this morning that he had Graves Disease and will now begin some treatment for it. He has had all these symptoms for a bit over a year now. Needless to say, it has been very difficult to get definitive answers. Three doctors took blood test and never told us what the results were. The last doctor was wonderful. (finally) SHe saw him the first time, listened, reveiewed the tests already done and sent him to have a scan the next day. That was last week This morning she told him Graves Disease. Reading your pages, I have discovered that not many men seem to get diagnosed with this. My husband may not have gone either had it not been for me saying there was something very wrong. He had a lot of the symptoms you all have described. He was put on medicine for depression. He couldn't sleep. COULD NOT tolerate heat. Sweated buckets, still does. Heart would race, numb hands and impotence at times. That was not a symptom I have seen any where on the web and believe me I have been looking at anything and everything on Graves DIsease for the last two hours! I also notcied though that there just wasn't much about men. Thanks for this site. It is a huge help!!

Great website! I've developed a site for people with diseases and disorders and I thought you might find it of some use. I don't have Graves disease listed, but am considering it. Thanks for your efforts.
