wow, what a great site, I have been looking for info. about what i have, but there is so little info. out there, when i brought my very shakey hands to my doctors attention, he immediately sent me for blood work, and i was lucky to be diagnosed right away so after so many little things being wrong with me, the answer was clear. When i asked, just what is graves disease, the answer was i think over simplified, or is it incorrect? his explanation was that i was born with an extra enzime in my system that told my thyroid what to do, and that between the enzime and my brain telling my thyroid what to do, my thyroid was working over time. Armed with this information and having radioactive iodine treatment, and now on thyroid replacement pills everyday, I think i'm okay, but am i? What's in my future, should i be concerned? Is there m re i should know? Cindy

I really enjoyed reading your story and your updates. Alot of what happened to you is happening to me as I write this, I thought I was going insane. This summers' extreme heat in south Texas triggered what I belive maybe Grave's disease in my life. I have had syptoms for years but they got really bad about 2 months ago(I work outside in the heat). Keep up the great work you are doing here, and thanks for the info. I just hope that I find a better doctor than you did first time around.

I've been diagnosed last June (97). ALthough my endocrinologist says my hormone levels are alright (I only wish I knew what they were) I still feel very unlike myself. I still find myself with a racing heartbeat (he had me taking 80 mgs of Inderal and n w he just had me wean off of them at 20mgs! It's been a few weeks since my last one yet I am still feeling the racing and the palpitations). I find that I am still shaky and agitated a lot. My palms sweat a lot, and I always feel like I have a lump in m throat. He says that they thyroid is still the same size as it was a year ago. That to me doesn't sound right! He talks of radiation treatments to help shrink it and I am a little hesitant about it. But all in all I feel okay with what's been happenin with it. I suppose this is normal. I am now concerned about my 3 year old getting this and whether I should have him tested now. Thanks for listening to me whine!

Please . . . where can I find info on Radioactive Iodine treatment? Specifically, I'm looking for the pros/cons of this treatment. My sister is afraid to try it and I'd like to find some info to either justify or relieve her fears. Thanks!!!

I was on PTU for 18 months with the 1 in 3 chance the RX would take care of the Graves. Went off the PTU in February and back on it in April. Taking 250 miligrams a day to get the darn level down to have the radioative iodine. My weight keeps creeping p and it is very discouraging. I just want to get it zapped and get on with life.

THANK YOU!! I can't tell you how liberating your story is to me. For years I have been told "IT" is ALL stress, my weight began to skyrocket, have always had patches on my skin(on & off), a year or so ago my hair began to fall out getting so much thinner, I had to leave a new job due to some sort of Panic Attack,I have always been the "TROUBLED ONE" n my family. I have often wondered if I were crazy. This has plegged me in diffrent ways most of my life I can recall the rashes began at 14, aches and pains not one person could understand. I am now 39 years old, 6weeks ago a cold nodgule on my lower rig t thyroid was removed. The entire right side is removed, no cancer was found. SOOOOO, what now? There are times my legs, and joints hurt so bad I feel a struggle to walk. My eyes will feel tight and sore to look to either my far left or right. I have gaine a lot of weight. I can go on and on .....BUT I won't! :) I have been so confused (UNTIL NOW) as to what to do to help myself. My family Doc." says you have Graves and Fibermayalgia (???) you are to young". No nothing, no explanations, no orders, no NOTHING! Thanks to your site I can now begin to help myself. THANK YOU and BLESS YOU for your time, helping people like me find their way out of this dark funk, and pain. Keep up the good works and take care of yourself. Sin erly grateful, G.L. Blanchard
