Comments: Found out last week that I have Graves'. Reading your ordeal is encouraging. I only had a few months of major discomfort before my disease was diagnosed. Complicating things is the wonderful fact that I am pregnant...my thyroid cannot be fully treated until after the baby. My disease may cause miscarriage. Until this year I have taken my health for granted....NO LONGER! I thank the Lord for every day with my family and that He has spared me from death!

Comments: Hi there...... I have findly found some information on the disease that we all seem to be suffering from......I am 32 years old.and was diagnosed with this disease when i was 21.I had a thyroid ectomy......In which.....as I was told by another doc that it wasnt performed correctly....The surgeon removed one complete side of my thyroid gland and never touched the other side,,,,the side that wasnt touched should have been "shaved".but wasnt.so I then underwent radiation treatment.......I was in an emotional turmoil.....anyway to get to my point.is that I'm feeling better....but now my father has been diagnosed.he is stricken with Graves disease...and now the doctor says that he may need surgery.....this has to be done by a brain surgeon.....He is now always seeing double or triple..his eyes are large and swollen.watering continously.and his vision is terrible.......the surgery is an option.....but this surgery is very touchy. Its 50-50 chance that he will be able to see again after the surgery....... I'm asking anyone out there who has any information on this to please email me....we need some literature on what this is all about and what it all means.....Anyone with suggestions on a good site about graves disease please inform me.......And Sue........I thank you...People like you are a blessing.....I would love to join in your chat session....and I'm very new to the internet.and unsure of how to join in.... I am looking forward to giving information on my family's history of this disease...... Thank you . Sharon

Comments: I was given my iodine treatment yesterday. My husband thinks I will be o.k. by next week. I read months of these letters. It seems that even after people are on medication, they suffer for years. I start taking tapazole on Thursday. I am afraid I will get some kind of allergic reaction to it. I read of one person here who was put in the hospital for a week. I don't let this diesease get me down. I go to work every day. I carry on the best i can. I refuse to admit that I am tired. I want to be me. I have always been energetic and when I first started shaking, I thought i was having a nerve attack. I have had these before, but now I think it has always been my thyroid. Do people ever really feel well with graves disease? I'd like to hear some success stories.

Comments: I was diagnosed with Graves' in Nov. '96 and had a subtotal thyroidectomy in June '97. Wished I had found you sooner. There are so many things I feel that I am not informed about Graves'. Right now I am on sythroid and feel great, but I still wonder if I am going to return back to the "rollercoaster" or "pit of hell". Thank You creating this site, I will be visiting again soon. God Bless.

Comments: I have Graves Disease(hyper). In Febuary, 1997, after a routine physical exam my MD requested additional bloodwork. After 2 additional blood tests he sent me to an endocrinologist, although I had no outward signs of the disease. I thought he was crazy. The blood test results were faxed to his office . His office called and said the doctor wanted to see me as soon as possible. When he saw me he was shocked because I had no outward symptoms other than a little weight loss. He told me someone with my test results should be bouncing around the room. I have been taking a drug called 'Tenormin' for about 10 yrs to control a skipping heart beat problem. This drug is also used control the heart rate of someone with Hyper form of this disease. This was the reason I had none of the physical symptoms. I was also given the 3 choices and chose the radio active iodine. Since I already take 1 pill everyday, what's 1 more. I consider myself very lucky I have an MD that believes testing for this disease should be part of the routine exam process. When he talks to other MD's he uses my case as the perfect reason to include bloodwork for Thyrioid disease. I hope they take his advise. I would be glad to talk to anyone is concerned about their condition.

Comments: I have a neck that has been a joke for years. A "possible"goiter according to my doctors. I am sick, I have spells, I feel all around terrible and am brushed off as loonie or having panic attacks. Right now I feel lousy and mad that no one will help. I am on a small dose of Levoxyl and am told that my thyroid is not messed up because routine blood work comes back normal. However, I have spells of depression, anger, terrible fatigue to the point of feeling disoriented, I have gained over 15 pounds in a little over three months, and now have breathing problems and pressure in my throat and chest, which could all be related. I am very frustrated and only wish a doctor could validate my feelings with something that is an actual problem so I could get this fixed!!!!!
