Comments: I was diagnosed with graves disease 7 years ago. My life has been one filled with misery and pain, my biggest problem is that while I was having the symptoms, personal doctors were prescribing prozac and no one wanted to believe i was gaining 6 pounds every week! I stopped gaining weight after becoming 42 pounds heavier. Then I got pregnant and immediately after that delivery I got pregnant again. My abillity to make decisions was clouded by factors I couldn't understand. My husband did not accept my disease and accused me of just being mean and on purpose. My dose of synthroid continues to increase at this point I am up to .20 and i think i will probably go up again. I have finally started losing weight but not without being on the adkins diet! My doctors have been very little or no help to me. Thank you for the web page, I have learned some things from you and it makes me feel better to realize that the accusations that I'm "being this way" on purpose are just not true.

Comments: Glad to have found this great web page. I have been living with Graves disease for more than 7 years now. I found a great endocrinologist who specialized in in GD. I was thankful indeed to find out I was and am mot going crazy. I started the PTU treatment and within the first 6 months became preganant. During my pregnancy the graves disease seemed to diminish and I lost weight being pregnant. It is now 6 years later and have been having reoccurring symptoms and recently went back and will have to be making the decision PTU or radio active treatment. I know it is back, the crying, the depression, the anxiety, etc. The all too too familiar synario. So, I have this site bookmarked and am continuing to browse for more information.

Comments: Hi, I've just been told I have Graves' Disease. I was given the three choices I've read about and have chosen to try Tapazole - took my first two tablets this morning. I need to lose weight (I'm 5 ft 1 ins and was 197lbs - now I'm 166lbs) and I'm upset that after losing a bit of weight I'm now going to put it back on again and probably even more!! I know this is possibly the least of my worries but I haven't really experienced any troubling symptoms (yet?)- I only discovered that I had the disease because my mum suggested that I see a Doctor when she saw the change in my eyes - neither I, nor my hubby had even noticed it.(Although now that I know what the symptoms are I can see that I do have some of them but never made the connection.)
It was great to find this web site - thank you. I would appreciate any comments.

Comments: Hello.
I'm 25 years old and was just diagnosed with Grave's Disease 6 months ago. I was stunned. My whole life changed before my eyes. I should be grateful though. Luckily my gynocologist discovered my goiter and ordered blood tests which confirmed my Hyperthyroid. She then referred me to an Endocrynologist who then ordered a thyroid scan and more blood to then diagnose me with Grave's. I've been on Tapazole since eary May and it seems to be working well. My levels have been in the normal ranges for a couple of months now. At first, it was all hitting me too fast. I gained 30 pounds in two months! That alone was a hard blow for me who is normally 130lbs at 5'5". I leveled at 160 and have lost a few since then, I'm now almost 150. Recently a new symptom is really bothering me. For the last two months my hair has been falling out. It has become very thin and I'm worried that I'll go bald! When will this stop and begin to grow back? What else can I expect to happen to me? Please send your words of wisdom to me.
Thank you. Anita

Comments: Hi, I am glad to know that I am not the only one out there that is experiencing the same symptoms (unfortunately). I was just recently diagnosised with hypothyroidism in September even though I knew I probably was. My mother has a goiter and my aunt had a hypothyroid before she died. But unlike you all of my blood tests came back with in normal levels. It was'nt until I listened to a tape by a homeopathic doctor that I learned about a more accurate test for thyroid deficiets. Since you know the thyroid is the "master control center" (after the brain) then it makes since there is a more accurate test than the blood test. You take your body temperature three days in a row first thing in the morning using a regular theraometer (not digital). If your temp is below 97 your thyroid is not working and you have a hypothyroid.
Some of my symptoms was very slow metabolism, cold feet, constant fatique, depression, low blood pressure, night blindness, PMS, and many other problems including a very low immune system. I work in long term care facilities performing physical therapy on patients and I am sick atleast once every couple of months from whatever illness that patients were passing around or my teenagers brought home from school. Hardly ever was my family ill but I am sick so often. I finally found a Doctor who understands that I am not a hypercondriac or crazy. I have started on the synthroid but I am not having a lot of sucess yet. I know it is early but my blood pressure has skyrocketed from 116/62, to this weekend it was 189/90 and pulse was 95 to 105.
After reading your story I am concerned thaat I too may have Graves disease. This is something I will be looking into depth. Thanks for sharing your story and letting others share their's.

Comments: I am 26 years old and was diagnosed with Graves disease 5 years ago. I thought that I was just stressed out from college. I had a hyperactive thyroid and let it go for months because I thought it was nothing. I lost about 20 pounds before going to the doctor. I had to get radioactive iodine and I take medication every day. I am very glad that I did catch it early considering the fact that I had never heard of Graves Disease before. I go to the doctor every six months to make sure my levels are ok.
