Comments: I was officially diagnosed with hyperthyroidism & Graves' Disease last January (T4 level over 22), and was given radioactive iodine treatment. My doctor told me it would take at least 3 months to "normalize" my levels. I was 21, working full-time, completing my degree (taking 18 hours of classes) and I was newly married. My doc ignored my complaints of exhaustion and blamed me for poor eating habits when I went in 5 weeks after the treatment (I had gained over 10 lbs. in a month). When I went back for my 2-month check-up, I was close to losing my job because I couldn't stay awake for more than 4 or 5 hours at a time, I had failed several exams at school, and I was 20 lbs. over the weight I had been at in January. My doctor gave me a prescription for Synthroid JUST IN CASE, but he told me to wait for the test results before I filled it. He said if my T4 level was at 9 or 10 like he expected, I would have to wait a month to start on the medicine, but if I was at 7 or 8, I could begin taking it. 2 days later I received a call telling me to fill the prescription IMMEDIATELY. My T4 was at 1.2. It's since normalized, but lately I've been having symptoms again. My new doctor (I moved) is a nice guy, but he thinks I'm fixed. Does anyone else have problems after being treated? I feel like everyone around me is tired of my telling them I have a problem. Nobody believes me because the doctors say they've fixed the problem. I've heard that thyroid disease can recur, but I don't know anything about it. Why won't doctors talk to us like we're intelligent human beings? I am so sick of being told lies because doctors don't want me to panic. Somebody, please talk to me.

Comments: Great to finally find out that I'm not nuts. Misery loves company, I'm too often miserable, but I love people, read company, and when there are things that we have in common, great

Comments: My sister-in-law was just diagnosed with Graves' Disease. I don't know anything about the disease except what I read in your story. I don't know how serious or life-threatening it is. I worry about her, but I don't know if that does any good.
