Comments: My dad jusst got diagnosed with Graves' Disease. I'm not quite sure what it is, yet. I'm going to find out as much as I can. Next week he is going to do "the cocktail" treatment. I'm scared because I don't know what this disease is or what it can do.

Comments: I completly understand why you are very angry. I, too have been misdiagnosed, only I found a doctor that found it a few years after it started, so I realize that I am truly blessed to have found her when I did. I also have bipolar disorder, but that started years before the Grave's disease. The Grave's disease severly intensified the bipolar disorder, and everyone thought that I was a lunatic. My story is long, so I will not go into anymore detail, but I do know what it is like, and I feel for you since you had to suffer for 27 years. Do you realize that you could have went into a coma or even died. I would have a talk with some of the doctors from your past. Also no one understands. Not even my family. Lately I have had severe insomnia, heart palpatations, and depression, and since the last thyroid treatment my symtoms have started to come back. Apparantly it did not work so well.

Comments: than for all these wondrful stories. i' nw to all this i've only been diagnosed about 6 months but have ben ill with lots of the aformentioned symptoms for probably 15 or more years. on neomrcazole and propranolol 10 and 4 a day repectivly. ore blodd tests this week coming 25th jan 99. trying to get the counts 'normal' ha before radiodine treatment. the docs aren't too forthcoming and take it in their stride when you tell them it's not all stress etc. keep up the good work i will watch here and see if i can help. thankyou that we are not alone and hermits can get out and do their own! shopping without the world ending eventually.

Comments: It was really great to find this site -- all the other sites I have visited have been merely clinical, just a list of symptoms and treatment. This is so much more human! I was diagnosed with Graves' disease just this week. And like many of the other people who have signed this guestbook, I think I may have had this disease for years. I've been lucky with doctors -- my gynecologist noticed the enlargement in my thyroid gland and ordered blood work. When it came back positive, he sent me to an endocrinologist. I am now waiting to schedule treatment. The bad thing about this disease is that no one seems to believe that you're really ill. I've had hot flashes, heat intolerance, tremors, muscle weakness, itching, dry skin, INSOMNIA(!), loss of concentration, some weight loss, nervousness, irritability, fast heart rate, etc., and no one seems to take it seriously (except my family). Thank you so much for this site!
