Comments: I cried when I saw your story for so many years, nobody understand what kind of emotional struggle I've been through because of the disease. My family and friends are all concerned for my 'explosive temperament,' but there's just nothing they can do. I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism 4 years ago, when I was 19, but I think it all started long before that. Tonight when I accidently get onto your web page and started reading, I just couldn't stop crying because there's finally somebody that understands. I'm filled with questions. and I hope you don't me asking, because I don't know any other source I have planned to undergo surgery this coming summer, but I will be on medication for the rest of my life. I would like to know if the operation would really release me from all these struggle, both physical and emotional struggles. Maybe there are alternatives? I'm so happy that I find you! God Bless! Amy

Comments: I was diagnosed with Graves' Disease in May of 1997, just before graduating from high school. I suffered and still do from extremely irritating hives all over my body. I have seen many doctors, and most of them tell me the eudikaria (I'm not sure how to spell that!) is from the Graves' disease. I have been off medicine since this past summer, because my thyroid was in remission. Unfortunately I still occasionally have hives. It really helps to know there are other 19 year olds with this disease. Does anyone else get hives?!! If so e-mail me!

Comments: Thanks heaps for everything, you have made me laugh & cry my way through this site. It has helped me alot. I found out 4 days ago I have Grave's Disease, and not knowing anything much about it I came in search of an internet site that would tell me more about this disease that people like me, here in Australia, don't know much about. I've been told I have to rest alot, due to the fact they are expecting me to have a heart attack in the near future if I fail to rest up! Hard when your an active 19 year old!!!
Once again thanks a heap Sue <3

Comments: Thyroid disease is very common in our family. Thank you for insight from your own experience. It's nice to know that I am not crazy or alone.

Comments: I want to thank you all for sharing your stories. I thought I was one in a million confronting this disease. I have been diagnosed with GD for one year now. When I first took radiation, I went into thyroid storm. That was pretty scary. I now have to go back in two weeks for another dose of "the cocktail pill", I hope this time it wont be so bad. All I can suggest if you are newly diagnosed with GD, Is push your doctor for straight answers, dont be afraid to ask questions. Thank god I have an endroconologist who listens and cares for my situation. and for goodness sakes take your medication and keep all of your appointments. Keep the faith

Comments: I too was misdiagnosed for about 3 years. I must say that Be very leary of Doctors in the State of Minnesota. I saw over 47 before I was diagnosed. Then it took a move to Florida to find a great Endocrinologist who with no problem diagnosed me with reoccurent Graves Disease. I have now been through the RAI treatment twice. I am still waiting to se if it worked this time

Comments: Finally confirmed that I am not as crazy as everybody thinks I am. Away with the scarfs to hide my "fat neck". Looking forward to some quiet time. Thanks Sue

Comments: I have had graves/hyper thyroid since 1979 went through all the test and heard all the its in your head for years. between 1987-1989 i had 5 miscairages with no answers why and hundres of test then in 1990 gave birth to my last daughter. Bad pregnancy then within 6 weeks could not move due to pain more test. dx with fibromyalgia then years of suffering weaker and weaker till I was bed ridden in 1992-93 was dx with thyroid and sydenhams choria[ side effects of rhumatic fever] all ignored to long. had iradiation therapy for thyroid felt somewhat better to this day i do not take synthroid but they say they have killed my thyroid off. who knows. I went to wheel chair for a few years then low and behold through much research on my own and a diet I found my self i am no longer on chair. getting stronger slowly but better than it has been for a long time. still think my thyroid levels are up and down but by the time the docs run blood work shows nothing. I hope it does not have to get so out of controll again before they take action. But for now I am back to walking riding a bike for a 1/2 mile a day shopping and doing some of my own house work again even going on a field trip with my daughters 3rd grade class far cry from the invalid i was confined to bed and then a chair.
