Comments: Recently found self with hypothyroidism...I had to ask for the testing, although I had many symptoms and a family history of same. I am also a R.N and thought I had some handle on thyroidism.Ha. My TSH level was 28 times higher than the normal high! I was absolutely astounded when I began research on symptoms and found I had about 18 out of about 24 or so that I had isolated. And yes, I am uspset with routine medical Dr's- pre I requested the testing when skin was flaking off and hair loss becoming apparent etc.I was sent for carpel tunnel syndrome..NO not that. Went to 2 differnt eye specialists and 2 diagnosis and just use natural tears for blurriness. Went to my Dr. many times saying I had episodes of chills with no fever...nothing done. Complained, finally, of just being so tired I had to physically, and with difficulty, force myself off the sofa. Was told that I would just have to keep doing that and was given Predisone for a week. I decided to forgo the Prednisone. Was put on Synthroid and then began with an acupuncturist for non-medically or surgically tratable hand problems. He also picked up on the thyroid problem...52 years of High Blood pressure etc. I received better care there. My speech was affected. I had a hoarse voice 1 1/2 years....you name it and per the lists, I have most of the symptoms. I would like to get under the care of an endocrinologist but fear I won't find anyone interested in how rotten I feel.Have exhausted feelings for Dr's who can't or won't try to see the problems people have with this or how badly it affects all parts of them. I personally wonder how so many HAVE MANAGED TO BECOME DIAGNOSED WHEN SO MANY ARE NOT TESTED ROUTINELY FOR THIS.Could go on but will give you a break...JHW

Comments: I have had Graves since 1980. Had been going to doctor who always told me I was to "fat" no matter what I went for. Unfortunately I was very sick before he made a diag. and sent me to an endo. I had radio active iodine in 1980. I have since developed diabetes, glaucoma, rhumatoid arth., and dry eye syndrome. It is sad that GP's are not better informed on Graves.

Comments: Found a great information site - I'm taking it to my doctor!
http://www.emedicine.com/EMERG/topic269.htm (wouldn't all fit on one line). This is emergency room training to recognize symptoms of thyroid storm. All the best to everyone.

Comments: I have Graves Disease. I had my goiter removed surgically about 2 yrs back. I amd having some real emotional problems lately as far as not being able to control my feelings. At times, I feel totally out of controll as far as what I'm saying. I am unable to stop myself. I've address this to my Doc and she said nother. I've had to find info myself that connects Graves Disease to emotions. I find this very dicouraging. As a matter of fact, I can't get my doctor to tell me what to even watch out for. I wish I could change, but with these HMO's one is limited. What could you posible tell me regarding emotions and Graves? Also, what remidies are out there to help people like me where their Disease affects there emotions? Thank you

Comments: My paternal grandmother died of GD before any treatment (30's). I was diagnosed 12 yrs ago (45). My daughter (35) has it now. I had extra time today and did a search. Thank you with all my heart!! I've learned more today than in the 12 years I've had the disease. I was fortunate to get excellent medical care in Highland Park, IL. Rare, I guess. My endo told me everything I was going through on my first appt. He has GD too. God put the right people in my life when I turned it over to Him. I'm sure I had the disease lots longer too after reading your story. Thank you so much, Sue!

Comments: Hello! I am 22 years old, and I am doing some research on Graves Disease because I just found out that I probably have it. I went into the doctor for dizziness, tremors, naseasous feeling, eyesight troubles, etc. They drew blood and found out that I have something wrong with my thyroid. I saw an endocrinologist and he believes I do have Graves Disease. They are doing an uptake and scan tomorrow and the next day to officially diagnose it. I was told I have two options: radio-active iodine to destroy the thyroid and take a hormone replacement for the rest of my life or I can take anti-thyroid medication. I am curious to find out more about which is the better alternative including side effects and long term conditions of each method. Please email me if you can give me a preference on which I should do. I found this website very interesting.... I felt like I was reading my own story in your personal story!!! Thanks so much!!
