Comments: I was diagnosed with GD last week but suspected it for a few weeks. I went to the endocrinologist and he was shocked at my lab reports. My counts are so high. I am not a candidate for RAI because going off my medications is life threatening. The only surgeon in my area turned my request down because he feels the benefits do not outweigh the risks to remove the thyroid. I am now forced to take meds that do not suppress my problems. I am still extremely hyper and terrified of my prognosis. I have 3 sons who depend on me and a husband who needs me as much as I need him.

Comments: Is anyone taking Tapazole- I also went for an uptake and Thyroid Scan last week, and was told there were no side effects. I am determined I am going to beat this, I am going to refine my diet and stick to exercising as a matter of fact I am going to get ready to go on my daily walk and take in all of the lovely sights that nature has to offer me. We must have a positive attitude, I believe that trully will help us. Hope to hear from you.

Comments: Gosh, I am not alone- I was just diagnosed as having graves disease, I am so angry but also relieved, why was this not diagnosed as I always go for a yearly exam, and if I did not ask for a thyroid test this probably would have gone on and passed on as something else. Today, I took my first dose of medicine. Hope to hear from you.......

Comments: Diagnosed with Grave's disease one month ago. Had RAi and am on PTU. Biggest problem is my legs, weak and pain like arthritis. Is that usual in GD? Your site is great.

Comments: I have also lived with thyroid problems since I was 12 years old. I am now 33. Reading the personal stories was a surprise. My doctors have never explained what counts are good or not, so I have no idea! Pitiful as that sounds, I truly have been at their mercy regarding this. Any information that can clarify numbers in TSH and/or individual T counts would be greatly appreciated.

Comments: I am 32 years old, was diagnosed with Graves disease in 1990. Had RAI in 1991, and have been struggling with it ever since. Seems like DR's are only interested in what your TSH level is. I know what the "textbook normal TSH guidelines" are, but what IS normal, anyway? I still continue to struggle from hypo to hyper all the time. It's all very frustrating. I am very thankful that I do not have any eye problems, like some GD sufferers. I am a Police Dispatcher, and my job depends on staring at multiple computer screens (12 hr shifts). I am wondering, is there a link between GD and blood sugar problems? My endo has recently told me I may have the start of diabetes. ( actually hypoglycemia, which he says turns into diabetes). It doesn't run in my family, so I'm wondering if anyone else out there has heard anything about the two being linked together. Any and all mail is appreciated. Thanks!

Comments: I found out I had graves disease in Jan. of 99. I had taken my 11 year old daughter to the Dr. and he noticed my buldging eyes and ran test that day. I have already had radio-iodine treatment and will return to the Dr. this month to see where I'm at. Thanks for your informative information. Sue
