Comments: I am very impressed with your site. At the same time, I understand your frustration as well. I am 24 and have been diagnosed with Graves too. It's been three years since my diagnosois. It's nice to know we are not alone. Hope you have a great day!

Comments: I was just diagnosed with Graves Disease yesterday. I am OUTRAGED. I have had most of my symptoms for a year and have been calling both of my doctor's about it. During this year, I have had 2 surgeries....one to remove my gall bladder and one to laser off precancerous cells from my cervix. I have been diagnosed with HPV (genital warts). Of course, ALL of these things have nothing to do with the GD according to the doctors. I'm sorry, but how is it that from the first sign of my GD symptoms, to diagnosis that I have all these other medical conditions? I'm being told now that the bulging in my eyes might be irreversable because of the length of time I've had the symptoms. They will keep me on the PTU and propanolol for 3 months while my TSH level is less than .03 and my free T4 is 5.5. The results of my 24 hour uptake was 51%. After 3 months, they will consider the RAI. I find it hard to believe they're going to be able to regulate the hypo once that's done....just from the stories I've read on this site. When I first presented symptoms, I weighed 230 lbs. I am now 65 lbs lighter and they're telling me to prepare myself to gain the weight back. OVER MY DEAD BODY! I can't see a doctor telling me to prepare myself to gain 65 lbs. Anyway, I have appreciated the stories on this site and will update you on what the doctor's tell me in the future. I work in health care and was fortunate enough to have my coworkers diagnose this condition. I am glad I didn't wait to pursue these conditions with my doctor. More to come.... Dianna

Comments: Hi Marian and everyone,
I am also on tapazole, I have been on it for about 6 wks. at the present, I feel fine. I went last week to the endocronologist, my levels were normal. He mentioned RAI for me down the line. I would prefer to stay on the medicine right now. I failed to ask him is it possible to stay on the medicine. I believe one can stay on tapazole for a certain period. Marian, did you check with your Dr. let me know. Also the person that did the homeopathic route could you let us know a little more about that. Does anyone take vitamins and let us know what. Thanks everyone.

Comments: I have Graves Disease. I went misdiagnoized for almost 10 years. I was hyper, my endo said I had one of the worst cases he had ever seen. I am better, had the RAI treatment. I am on a high blood pressure med, prozac, synthroid, 1500 calcium daily, premphase, and multivitamin. I see my endo every 3 months with extensive blood tests. I had all of the graves disease symtoms except for the bulging eyes. What waits for me down the road with this disease? Anyone know?

Comments: Your page was very interesting to me. However, I kept looking for someone to say they got so sick they ended up in the hospital like me. Well, that's my story I was so misled by my docotor I became so sick and in severe pain my husband rush me to emegency. By then I had lost 25 pounds. That my not seem like alot to you but keep in mind my normal weight was only 106 pounds. At the time all of the maddest occured I was 38 years old. I had lost half my hair I thanked God everyday for giving me thick hair that allowed me to hide the balled spots. Even at the Hospital they misled me as well. It took me being release from there and calling my female docotor explaining to her what was going on with me she knew right away I had had a Thyriodal Attack. This attack could have killed me. My pause rate was at 120 pulsation a mintue. That was the reason for the severe pain. My heart rate was too fast so therefore the rest of my organs after a while could not keep up with my heart. The female docotor refered me to my Endo man who after many test put me on Tapazole (or however you spell it)I was off work for 3 months. I could go on and on with my story. But you only asked for comments and I have taken too much of your time as it is. Thanks for reading.

Comments: I have an over-active tyhroid. It hasn't been easy, my mood swings, feeling so low inside. My Fiancee Allan has been very supportive, even though I am shouting and screaming at him. I am considering taking the iodine, but am a little scared of any long term effects on my body.

Comments: Thank you so much for this webpage. Hopefully, it will inspire me to take this disease seriously and work toward getting healthy. I was diagnosed with GD three years ago, but did nothing about it. Maybe now I'll start.

Comments: Sounds just like me. I didn't react well to the meds. though and so found myself looking for alternatives. My Naturopath used weekly intervienus herbal injection, Local anestitic(sp) injected into my thyroid gland as well as daily homopathic tablets. After a 10 week course I've been simptom free for 4yrs. I feel great!

Comments: thanks for sharing Sue. I have had the
same Dr. for over 10 years. He never suggested anything but anxiety and prescribed "pills". When i explained to a friend that i was always weepy and depressed, she suggested a thyroid test. In essence, i have been trying to obtain a clear diagnoses for 3 years, have had medication for 1 year, but the hormone level increased again 6 mos after treatment ended. Everything is so vague. Blood tests show I have hyperthyroidism, lab tests are inconclusive. i stopped believing the doctors until a month ago. My 30 year old Daughter was also diagnosed with Graves. I went in for new blood test the following week. Now i understand so much of the past 20-40 years of ups and downs! Wish me good luck in finally coming to grips with this mystery and God Bless you too. Thanks for sharing Sue. When I told a friend that I was so emotional and weepy, she asked if i had ever had my thyroid checked. I had just been to dr of 10 years and was scheduled for a cholesteral screening. A receptionist at the dr.'s office told me what boxes to check and the bloode test came back positive. I had to ask
