Comments: I read with much interest your story! So many similarities! Even our sons are the same age! I also think I aquired this disease after my son was born in 1971. Although my symptoms have not been so severe as yours they are still there. (I was wondering why my feet were turning purple!) I have been Hypo for 20 years and have just been diagnosed with Hyper. I was not told what my levels are or were, but I am going to ask now that I know what "normal" is. So far, there is no sign of a goiter, but after your story I'm glad the doctor even checked to see if there was one! I have never been given any information or reading material and feel like we are being held hostage by the medical profession by our lack of knowledge. I will bring this up with my doctor and insist that they educate the public who are suffering with this disease! Your Web Page is very informative and I will tell others about it. Thankyou. Comments: In May of "99" I went to my obgyn to have my tubes tied. When he saw that my thyroid was large. He did no test to see why, So know it's August of "99" and I have gained 50 pounds in two months. So I went to the clinic on base to see another gyn doctor. She has also seen the weight come on quickly. So she did a TSH test, I went back in two weeks and the test was 0.00. She told me my thyroid was not working. I will admit I was not that worried. She sent me to a endocrinologist, He look at my throat and with all the other side effects. He said I had Graves' Disease then he order a blood test, throid scan and a uptake. Thats when I started to upset. I'm only 26 yrs old married with two daughters ages 5 yrs old and 23 months. I've been really tired latly and really don't have the energy to play with them that much. I go to the doctors at the end of this month to see how the test came out. I really don't know what to do. I'll write back when the doctor tells me what I need to do to slow this all down. Thank you for being there. Kristen M.

Comments: I was diagnosed with Diabetes last week by a Endocrinologist. He also stated that I could have the onset of Graves Disease. I have friends and relatives tell me that its treatable and I just want to respond back to them "then would you like to have it or deal with it everyday?" Thanks Rhonda

Comments: I was diagnosed with Grave's Disease in May 1999 - am on Tapazol - have opted not to receive RAI treatment at this time. Will stay on Tapazol (small dose) for 2 years. My symptoms have decreased drastically - am doing much better now!

Comments: I just found out that I have Graves' Disease 02AUG99, and I was in the Army. They sent me home for this because it was so serious. I have had Radioactive Iodine Therapy and find out in a few weeks if it did any good or if I must have surgery. Graves' Disease put my 'career' on hold in the USArmy, and I am learning to deal with it along with my family and friends. God Bless! Renee

Comments: I'm so glad to have found your page. I am 34 years old and I was diagnosed with Graves three years ago, had RAI and thought I was stabilized on medication. Ha ha. Little did I know. Am just starting to fight with my endocrinologist and see an opthomologist the end of this month as I now have the eye disease..in only one eye. I've gained forty pounds in the last three years, deal with fatigue and mood swings. They've started me on Paxil and want me to take a weight loss pill that costs $85 for a twenty day supply and isn't covered by insurance.I'm just so glad to have found you and other Graves disease pages. I'll keep reading and hopefully learning from what you've gone thru and continue to fight. Thank you. Barb

Comments: I was diagnosed with Graves' Disease about a month ago. I had dropped 20 pounds (awesome!) and was sleeping on top of the covers in the middle of winter. I just assumed it was menopause hitting a little early (I'm 47) and whatever happened was normal for me. I was also in a new job training program with lots of stress, so I just attributed my symptoms to that. I've been on tapazole for about 3 weeks, don't see much difference yet.I'm trying to find out about some of the symptoms/problems regarding muscle loss and exercising. A friend at my gym went through this years ago and told me that you can't build muscle when you're hyperthyroid. I don't have the stamina for aerobics classes that I once did - I get really winded midway through the class. That's frustrating for me. I'm glad that I'm in good hands now with my doctor....Thanks for the website.
