Comments: I was diagnosed in 'Full-blown menopause' at 40 yrs old by my OB/GYN, put on hormone replacement.Found goiter in my neck about 2 1/2 yrs later. Did not see Dr until my heart was pounding so fast I thought I was having a heart attack. I had already diagnosed my own thyroid problem by surfing the net with my symptoms. When I went to my Internist with my info, she immediately tested me and sure enough referred me to Endocrine specialist.More tests and I was told I have Graves. I chose to have total thyroidectomy to remove the goiter as I am a heavy smoker and I was afraid of cancer forming. Dr agreed and told me that RAI only prolongs the surgery. I take Levoxvl .15 mg daily and I feel great. Still have the Eye disease but I'm learning to accept that also. Yes gained 20 lbs after surgery but have now began to lose it. It has been 18 months since my surgery. You can live with Graves disease, be thankful!!

Comments: It was great to find your website and find that there are other people experiencing the same things as me. My T4 level is 30.6 and my TSH is 0.04 whatever that means.

Comments: Just checking sites for info. Have some very similar symptoms, but no goiter. Have been tested several times, negative. Still wonder. Scratchy eyes, tired, weakness, low libido, no joy, (in spite of wonderful husband) mentally foggy, puffy face/hands, weight stable (I eat like a bird, don't lose) but not overweight. I'm 59, on estrogen, but feel better without it. The estrogen makes my eyes gritty and puffy. However, lose ALL interest in sex and dry up if I don't take it. Sleepy all day. No medical insurance, so hate to pay another doctor to tell me my blood tests are normal. Am a recovering alcoholic (over 15 years) & was told that hypothyroid is prevalent in alcoholics and recovering people. Think I could have mild symptoms? Have had them for years and years. Wish I could find a reason for feeling this way. Any comments?

Comments: I've emailed you just a few moments ago, and you may certainly print my story if you would like. It is interesting, my dear, that I did not read your story until after I'd written to you via email. I just told my husband that as I read your story, I felt I was nearly reading my own life story, give or take a few details. I, too, at one point had reached the suicidal stage, and that was when I got in to the doctor who probably saved my life and did diagnose my GD.

Comments: I just found your site yesterday and I already feel better. I am a month past my radiation treatment for Graves Disease and I am not feeling better nor has there been any change in my blood levels. I was angry and disappointed and then I found your site. I read some of the stories you posted and I felt better, there are people that understand and that have gone through what I am going through. It just felt good, I didn't feel so isolated. Thank you.
