Comments: I,m so happy to find this page. I feel I've finally found som compassion and understanding. So many of these stories could be mine with just minor changes and additions. Why does this disease get so little attention from the medical profession? There's alot of suffering going on and treatment is anything but aggressive. Thanks again for being there. I'm trying to find someone with Graves Opthalmopathy(spell?) as bad as mine to find out they're course of treatment. Kathy Bakken

Comments: I am 26 year old white female. I have recently seen an endocronologist. He did a physical examination on me and informed me that my thyroid gland is twice the size it should be. My grandmother has graves' disease. She was diagnoised with it in 1984. I can still remember before they actually found out what was wrong with her, my family thought she was having a nervous breakdown. I am very concerned about my health. I am also very interested in learning all I can about my condition. Your web-site has really helped me. I wish you luck! Sincerely, Amy Roberts

Comments: I know that I have signed the guestbook once already but I have a new E-mail address now and wanted to update. If anyone has any advice or suggestions as to how I can help my family to understand about graves' and the symptoms that go along with it please feel free to E-mail me. I think I've gone totally over the deep end. Any help or advice that anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Starr

Comments: Susan, first off this has to be one of the best designed websites I have visited. Last night my son who lives in Minnesota, called to let us know that his wife has Graves disease. Neither my Wife or I, had ever known about Graves before. After visiting this site, We now have some understanding of what is in store for our daughter in law. Thank You, and God Bless.

Comments: Your webpage was sent to me by a friend yesterday, and I have found it to be very eye opening. Alos, yesterday I was diagnosed with Graves Disease. I have been having thyroid problems since September 1998, the beginning of my sophomore year in high school. I am only 16 years old. I really don't know much about my situation yet, I have to see another specialist in April. I hope for the best, and I wish you luck with your struggle.

Comments: I was diagnosed with Graves Disease Sept. 99. My gyn Dr. yearly does thyroid testing and after waiting 2 months to get labwork done, it came back hyperthyroid. Immediately had a thyroid ultrasound for tumors, nodules. None were found, only textural changes. Had RAI done Oct 1. Crashed big time-coming back slowly-last visit to endo my TSH had jumped from 1.1 (I was feeling well) to one month later 14.0 (exhausted). My endo upped synthroid from 0.05 back to 0.075 ( went hyper with first doseage at 0.075). Anyway I have enjoyed reading the NGDF bulletin board nightly to learn and see who might have some of my symtoms. I also wonder if my endo really works with me enough, it seems my visits are very quick and tho she listens to me, I am not sure I really get answers. What are some of the things your endo checks out on your visits? I also seem to be having alot of other issues cropping up that I am not sure are directly related to Graves, or my weakened immune system. Thanks for listening-I don't want to make this too long, but I really wonder about everything that seems to set off another round-this week it is my liver-having an ultrasound done on Monday. Thanks for listening. Mary

Comments: I was just diagnosed with hyperthryoidism with graves disease a week ago and I am 18 weeks preganant and I just thougt I was going to die with this pregnancy. I had three other kids and never felt like this before. I told my doctor about me not being able to go up the steps with out having to sit down as soon as I got up them, I just couldn't do any house work or antything without losing my breath. They now got me on a medication they say it is safe for the baby which I hope they are right but now I am stating to feel better but just really worried what it could do to the baby. I am so glad there are other people out there that I can relate to I just felt so alone with this I thought it was all in my head.

Comments: Laura, First if you have a hyperthyroid, a common drug used to treat it until either radiation treatment (surgery is rarely used anymore) can be done is PTU. This will help control the over active thyroid. After Radiation, you would then most likely be placed on Synthriod. My personal experience with Synthroid is... Generic is cheaper, but I continued to have head aches on it, so I stick with Name Brand and no more headaches. If you have Graves, and a Goiter... most goiters are treated with the radiation, and by medication. Only severe cases ( which mine was as close to severe as you would want to get) require surgery. Don't be scared or worried... This disease is controllable, monst people live a very productive and active life, and the best thing to do is to seek your treatment asap. Good Luck! You're not alone!
