Comments: I was diagnosed yesterday with Graves. I came home feeling I had made the right decision to go with RAI and meds for hypothyroidism. Your story could have been written by me. Am I expecting too much to think I will actually be "normal" in a few months? I can't stand this nervousness and sleeplessness much longer. I have been on Zoloft for depression, which is helping me tremendously, but I want to be healthy again without the chemicals. I have probably had this for over 20 years. I have been treated for anxiety, depression, insomnia, etc. for at least 20 years. And will I gain a lot of weight? This has me concerned also. If anyone can answer any of these questions, please let me know.

Comments: Hi. I was just diagnosed last Friday (5/12/2000) with Graves' disease. I was told it needed to be taken care of but wasn't serious. Now I am beginning to wonder. I am taking Propranolol to help slow down my heart rate and Propylthiouracil for whatever. Looking back, I may have had this for the past three years at least. Thanks for all the information. Good luck to all.

Comments: I was diagnosed with Grave's Disease November, 1999, I wasn't told how long I might have had it but was told that it was 75% damaged. I was to have radio active treatment but I have taken a job in Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina for 12 months so I have been put on a 'block & replace' trial. I had had a very 'bad' year last year, things seemed to take their toll on me, I became very agitated and upset all the time, started to get the 'shakes', couldn't remember things, felt extremely hot all the time, cried at anything and everything and in November suddenly seemed to lose about 26 pounds yet I was starving hungry all the time, couldn't sleep. Had been to doctors on and off convinced I was lacking something or just going plain crazy when I was told what I had. I felt great, there was actually a reason for all this. Now I have put back the 26 pounds plus maybe another 7 pounds. My skin is so dry (and it has always been very dry), I'm still feeling tired and to put it honestly, I feel terrible. The best I felt was when I was diagnosed and started medication but now I seem to have gone in the other direction. I had my blood levels taken before I came over here and my medication was raised, I go home for a weeks leave in July so I will have another blood test done and see where I am. I am no different from all of the other sufferers but it is nice to know I am not alone. Jan

Comments: I just found out last week that I have Graves. I has gone to the er with chest pains, shortness of breath all of the other symptoms of Graves. The cardiologist said I needed to have a stress test done or it could be my gall bladder. A friend of mine works for a cardiologist and got me an appt with him. It took him about 2 minutes to say I needed to have a blood test done to rule out hyperthyroid. When the blood test came back, he sent me for the thyroid uptake scan and diagnosed me with Graves. I still need to learn more about this disease but what I have found out so far is a little frightening. I am 36, a mother of 4. If anyone would E-Mail me with info and suggestions I would appreciate it. Thanks
