Comments: Reading all the stories, I felt like staring into a mirror of my thoughts. I have shared many of the same experiences here. Up until last year, I considered myself to be a very strong person both physically and emotionally. Like some of the stories, it's been hardest on others in my life. My hyperthroid took me down a couple of notches. I'm sure it is more devastating to someone who starts off unhealthy or weak. Joe P.S. (Yes, I'm an Engineer Sue)

Comments: Well I too was diagnosed with Graves in September 1999. In October I had the radioactive iodine and have been on Levoxyl ever since. I have recently had my dosage "upped" to 100mcg, but was curious why there is controversy about radioactive iodine?? I have felt great since my medication and don't seem to have any symptoms since I started treatment. I know I had a great doctor who immediately checked my thyroid when I went to him with my symptoms!!!

Comments: I was just browsing and found this site. It is wonderful to read the stories of others who are suffering from this disease, and know that I am not alone. After the birth of my second child, I started to experience what I would call panic attacks. I had just this overwhelming fear---of everything, mostly driving on icy roads, leaving home... after a time, it seemed to get better. The attacks recurred, only worse, after the birth of my third child. Depressed and at the end of my rope, I finally saw a doctor. At first, I was diagnosed with depression, but thank God for a doctor, that instead of just treating my symptoms, looked for a deeper cause. I was diagnosed with Graves Disease. After 2 months of treatment, I was able to stop taking antidepressants and have not needed them since. This disease is an ongoing struggle, I hear that radioactive iodine is a good treatment on one hand, on the other I hear others tell me to not let doctors do that to me. I will be reading more and hope to especially read more stories (good or bad) of those who have had this treatment.

Comments: Hi from Australia, I am 41 years old and have just been diagnosed with Graves Disease, felt like (****) for ages and the last straw was losing my hair, luckily my local doctor ordered the blood test and when positive sent me for Ultrasound and Nuclear Medicine Scan, have seen Specialist Physician and he has put my on Neo-Mercazole 10mg 3 times per day, have been on about 2 weeks now and am a little less tired, says it might take 3 years and then even still might need surgery or radioactive isotopes, Heres to the future
