Comments: I am 32 years old. One month ago, I was diagnosed with hyperthyroid. I had a radiology scan and was told yesterday that I have Grave's disease. They told me it is treatable and not to worry, but I am worried. The stories I read here are very scary to me but also helpful. My symptoms for 1 year have been fatigue that has increased drastically in the last 3 months, enlarged thyroid, puffy eyes, hard and rapid heartbeat, and nervousness that is extreme at times. I also have had weak knee joints but I don't know if that is related or not. I am on the medicine PTU and I'm picking up a prescription today to help lower my heart rate. Please email me with any advice you may have. Thanks so much, Melissa

Comments: I'm so pleased to see there is a web site for GD survivors. I am 27 years old and have been diagnosed since I was 17years old. I never really understood what graves' was until recently and because of the disease,I get scared at times for my health and what challanges lie before me. It's nice to know I'm not alone and support is a wonderful thing. I don't have a web site, but I would love for someone to write me and share experiences with me and talk about our challanges and possibly become good friends. Thanks. Zena.

My T4 is at 5.9 and the tsh is -0.01L which my endo still wants me to take the RAI on April 23rd. I just want you to know I know how you were feeling.. Once again God Bless you and your family... Comments: Thank you very much for an informative collection of pages. My life has been like hell for seven years, WITH all the symptons, but without any abnormalities on the blood work (which has been performed once). I should perhaps insist om more blood test. Love to you all from the cold Norway. Bente

Comments: I was reading comments from Tish, who signed the guestbook a few days ago. Just wanted to respond. I recently found out from my doctor that while weight LOSS is most common, some people with Graves have a metabolism that overcompensates and they can GAIN. That is one of the reasons I did not think I had Graves, because at the onset of my disease, I had a marked weight gain, which I could truly not arrtibute to lack of exercise, overeating, etc. So, yes, weight gain can accompany this disease or at least it did in my case. Not that I want anyone to tell me that being obese is okay, because there are other health risks we are all well aware of with weight, but just knowing that the disease was likely the cause, has made me feel better. I am exercising more and watching what I eat. I am able to have a more positive outlook on loosing some pounds, now that I know the most likely cause. I visit this site regularly and thank God for all of you who share.

Comments: I just saw an eye doctor today because of sweeling in my right eye for the past month. I also felt pulling from the back of my eye. It is also bigger than my riht eye. After an examination, he thinks it is Graves Disease. I go in for a CAT scan on April 9th, 2001. He is quite sure it is Graves Disease, but also said it could be caused from a major sinus infection. We will find out come Monday. But I also think it is Graves after reading your story and others. I have had such a mood swing over the last 2 years. I attributed it to menopause as I am 47 years old. And there are other things, like water retention and once in awhile joint pain. I have been very healthy over the years and I have never been a moody person, so I'm thinking he is right. I guess I am in for a long haul, huh? I will take it as it comes. I'm not looking forward to it, by any means, but I think this site will really help me. I think it is so good of you to do this. If it is Graves Disease that I have, I will also inform readers as the disease progresses. I didn't read anything on how you are doing now, except your goiter is smaller. (I hope I spelled that right) If by chance I don't have the disease, I will also write and let you know. God Bless You and I hope that you are doing very well. Charlene
